San Francisco was originally founded in 1776. In the mid-1800’s the gold rush resulted in San Francisco‘s rapid growth into the largest city on the west coast at that time, making it the principal banking and finance center of the west coast in the early twentieth century. The city has become popular with tourists, with its Fisherman’s Wharf, the Golden Gate Bridge, its cable cars and the Chinatown district.
